Did you watch the 60th running of the Daytona 500 Sunday? I did, for my husband’s sake. In the end, it was it a real nail biter.
Austin Dillon, 27, grandson of Richard Childress, brought home the win. He and crew (minus grandpa) took winning to a new level after the race by getting their backsides tattooed with the words “Daytona 500” and “champ.”
Aside from the cheek tattoos, the race was special for Childress. Twenty years ago Dale Earnhardt ended a career-long drought by winning the Daytona 500 in Childress’s famed No. 3 Chevrolet. Dillon returned the No. 3 to the Gatorade Victory Lane Sunday.
Dillon beat Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. by a mere 0.260 seconds. Are you kidding me?
I also was interested in watching Danica Patrick race for the last time in the Daytona 500. Although she started strongly, she ended up 35th after a dramatic crash on Lap 102.
“It just wasn’t meant to be today,” Patrick was quoted to say. “I’m grateful for everything… thank you to all the fans.”
And, I bet, to Aaron. In the interest of total – no fake news here – honesty, I do have a small confession to make. Danica is dating Aaron Rodgers, who quarterbacks my favorite team, the Green Bay Packers.
It made an all-day race just a little more worthwhile for me.
